The term fight or flight is well known in sociology. It is often best described as the reaction or ones response to fear when invaded or attacked.
Imagine being born in the dinosaur era many years ago. What would that look like? Well according to many, when a dinosaur invaded one’s territory the response of the caveman was to defend their family, home or shelter from the attack by fighting back. The opposite to fight as a course of action is to run, hence the term flight. What would you do?
The current situation has many families across the globe experiencing similar feelings of fear as COVID lays hidden around the corner or close by and waiting to infect another victim.
Unfortunately this killer is silent but deadly. Our natural reaction is to defend and fight. However, the constant fear can disable ones capacity to think and when fear creeps into our conscious thoughts it can have a negative impact on our ability to make decisions.
Whether you are a teacher, student, business owner, doctor, nurse, bin man, frontline or behind the scenes worker, please be mindful of the importance of being alert and self-aware to be fully effective in these times.
