The first Summer Camp facilitated by Create the Great in You in the Muirhevna Building on the grounds of Dundalk Institute of Technology campus was a roaring success. Pictured below is Mark Mc Cormack (Founder) Simon Ryan (Mentor & Magician), Josh Challoner (Apprentice Project Manager) and Dundalk FC’s Captain Mr Brian Gartland.
Brian spoke with the group about his journey throughout his professional career and he instilled the sense of pride, passion and drive needed to achieve his goals in life. It was inspiring for everyone present in the room.
Mark Mc Cormack and his team facilitated a whiteboard session with the group and focused on self leadership, success and happiness. The group gave their points of view and were challenged throughout the session.
Over 25 young people between the ages of 12 to 18 years old combined their minds and through a process of collaborative work. The talented youths developed new skills and ways of approaching problems from their peers and becoming solution focused.
The group engaged in a magic workshop by Simon Ryan and engaged in several icebreakers and games together. Our mentors shared their stories of success and failure and the importance of being resilient. The brave young people too volunteered to share their stories and some of the societal challenges they have encountered and overcome so far in modern day Ireland. (Caitlin Flynn, Shane Keer and Josh Challoner).
They worked in groups on a case study and together came up with solutions to problems presented in the case study. Each group learned presentation skills and then presented their findings to the rest of the young people in the room.
The aim of the Youth Leadership programme was to see how a group who were not familiar with each other would work together. By the end of the two day camp they showed us team work, communication, lots of laughs, honesty, integrity and the mentors gained insight into new approaches for future work with young people and groups.
Thanks to all the parents and guardians who believe in our work and to the young people who took part on the camp.
A huge shout out to Grace Kieran, Craig Kerr, Paige Mellin and Patrick Brady for their time working within the groups on the day as volunteering their time wholeheartedly.
